AyahDaily: an offline-first Islamic companion app

Our own product, in development. A React Native app for prayer times, Qibla, the Quran, hadith, duas and everyday worship tracking, built to work without a connection.

  • React Native
  • TypeScript
  • NativeWind
  • Offline-first
  • The salah tracker: today's five prayers marked on time, late or upcoming, a weekly chart and a streak
  • The Qibla finder: a compass with a gold needle pointing to the Kaaba, the distance, and a calibration tip
  • The tasbih counter: a large tap target with a progress ring, a daily goal, a weekly total and a streak

The screens on this page show demo data.

Why we are building it

A prayer app gets opened several times a day, often away from a good signal. We are building one that is calm to use and works offline for the things that matter most: when to pray and which way to face.

What it does

  • Prayer times, calculated on the phone. No internet needed. The calculation method and the Asr school are the user's choice, with a gentle reminder at each prayer.
  • Qibla. A compass that points to the Kaaba and works fully offline, with a prompt to calibrate when the needle drifts.
  • The Quran. The 114 surahs, a reader with translation, bookmarks, and the place you last stopped. It uses an Uthmani script typeface made for Quranic text.
  • Hadith. Ten collections to browse, a hadith of the day, and saved hadith.
  • Duas and azkar. Morning, evening and everyday supplications from the Hisnul Muslim collection.
  • Everyday worship. A salah tracker that records on time, late and missed prayers with a weekly view, a tasbih counter with a goal, a fasting tracker for Ramadan, a Zakat calculator, a Hijri calendar, the 99 names of Allah, a memorisation tracker and short daily quizzes.
  • Sharing. Turn an ayah or a hadith into a card that can be shared as an image.
  • A first-run guide that asks for location and notification permission only when it explains why.

Decisions that matter

  • Offline first. Prayer times and the compass need no network. Everything the app fetches is stored on the phone, and it goes online only when something has expired or is missing.
  • We do not write religious text. The Quran and hadith come from established open sources and are shown as they are. If the main Quran source cannot be reached, a second source takes over.
  • Calm by design. Readable type, a restrained palette and plenty of space. Colours come from one set of design tokens, not from values scattered through the code.
  • Easy to use. Large tap targets, haptic feedback on the tasbih, and labels for screen readers.
  • Retries and confirmations. A failed request offers a retry, and actions that remove saved progress ask first.

Where it stands

AyahDaily is in development, so there is no store link yet. The screens above are from the working app.
